Traditional Rulers Back Reconstructing

Traditional rulers in Nigeria have added their voices to calls for the country’s restructuring.
The position of the traditional rulers formed the consensus reached at the national development summit of traditional rulers in Abuja.

The traditional rulers have remained a critical part of national development being the closest form of leadership to the people. In recent times, their voices have been heard on issues of national discourse.
It is ten years since the summit was established and during the period the country has witnessed series of social, political, and religious tensions.
The 10th Abuja summit is worried that after decades of independence, the foundation laid for the country has come under threat. But the traditional rulers have also identified the need to face the reality of restructuring the country to usher in peace, equity and justice.
Restructuring in the views of these traditional rulers will douse agitations and repose the confidence of the people in government.
They also want the role of the traditional institutions well defined.
As governments at all levels seek ways to resolve ongoing clashes in parts of the country the summit called on the political class to initiate policies that will build bridges of love and oneness.
